Sal Crispo: Question and Answer Interview


What is your profession?

Usually, I tell people that I am a personal trainer; however, I do much more than personal training.  The 3 main areas that I focus on with clients are fitness, nutrition and lifestyle.  Therefore, it would be more accurate to say that I am a Holistic Practitioner, but because most people do not recognize this title, I simply use the personal trainer title instead. I am also one of the very few CHEK Practitioners in Vaughan. Here is a video by Paul Chek, the founder of the CHEK Institute, answering the question, ‘What is a CHEK Practitioner?’

Why are you a personal trainer?

Quite simply, I enjoy helping others and personal training is a great way to enrich peoples’ lives.  I love seeing results.  Whether it’s fat loss, increased energy or improved performance, results bring me joy.  It’s hard to wipe the smile off my face when I hear a client say; “I have a picture of me from last year and I sure don’t want to ever look like that again!” or “My back pain is gone!” or “My agility and speed on the ice has improved dramatically!”

Who inspires you most? 

My clients inspire me the most because they continue to overcome the 3 biggest excuses for not working out – NO TIME, NO MONEY, NO ENERGY.  

What is your personal philosophy?

In order to become truly healthy and fit, I believe we must adopt a holistic approach and equally develop our mental, physical and spiritual selves.  Once our body, mind, and spirit are consciously connected and working together for the same purpose, we can achieve whatever our heart desires.

What is unique about SmartPath Fitness? 

SmartPath Fitness is focused and determined to educate people on health and fitness.  I chose the name ‘SmartPath’ because the purpose people hire me is to show them the most efficient way to achieve their desired goals; and efficient means not wasting resources – time, money and energy.  I have dedicated my entire professional career, over 10 years, toward finding the best strategies to help others succeed or get results. The most important thing I have discovered is that everyone is unique and should be treated as an individual.  No single path can take everyone everywhere; for this reason, you must find your personal path to success.  And that’s exactly what I do; I put people on a ‘SmartPath’ toward achieving their desired health and fitness goals. 

What would you say to someone who may be interested in what you have to offer but are not sure if you are the right person to help them?

There are a lot of misconceptions circulated in magazines, on television and on the internet that are very misleading.  Many companies falsely claim that their products and services are the ultimate solution to weight loss and for this reason, a lot of people have committed to one thing or another where they experienced a lack of results, failed to achieve their goals and wasted their time, money and energy.  Therefore, I understand why someone may be reluctant to contact me for help.  However, I recommend that you start by reading my educational articles.  This will give you an opportunity to see whether or not my approach to health and fitness makes sense and resonates with you.
